Hi Tyler, can you start by telling us about yourself and how you first got into electronic music?
Hi, I’m Tyler Hill from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, music producer/DJ and music enthusiast for as long as I can remember! And music is my life. I bought my first record in 1990 from Sam the Record Man, a Toronto-based record shop not known for electronic/House music then. But I walked out with a record that would change my life forever. Nightmares on Wax – Aftermath on Warp Records, and before I knew it, wax became my life and 10,000 records later, I started producing and playing my first records throughout the Toronto club scene.
Could you talk us through your new track “8 Feet Deep”?
8 feet deep EP was a labour of love, and over the years, I’ve made music from progressive trance to Techno from 1998. 8 feet deep is a culmination of music production I’ve adapted from my love of Trance, House, Minimal/Techno going back to the early 2000s and the current deep Techno I’m producing today. 8 Feet Deep was a new sound and direction of Techno production outside of my past releases from this genre. This EP also features Vocal Glitch, released as a Techno track but borderlines a Tech-house feel produced to transaction both Genres.
How did you meet the team behind FGA, which is releasing your new EP? Is this your first release for the imprint?
The label’s owner and founder, DJ Jace, has been a long-time contributor to the music scene and production; I had the pleasure of recently playing alongside him and building a relationship that became the foundation of collaboration and music production.
I sent the label a track I produced showcasing my sound, and Findgrindaudio released Viral Infection on their ADE compilation Album opening the door to the release of 8 feet deep EP and six other tracks.
Which other labels have you worked with, and what’s been your proudest moment to date?
Over my 20 plus years of producing I’ve worked with many label’s, in 1999 I released Sick on Void Records also working with Wolfrage, pod and sog recordings.
But I would have to say that my proudest moment to date was hearing my first release played aloud by the biggest Dj and ideal infront of 2000 club goers at Toronto’s legendary Guvernment night club, and experiencing the lights and Soundsystem as my track moved the people, feeling the energy. That experience was overwhelming.
Have there been any big-name DJ’s supporting your music, and who is the DJ/producer that inspires you the most?
Unfortunately my music hasn’t been played by any DJ’s internationally that I’m aware of, but I’ve had some success with radio and local artist big and small, but fingers crossed with 8 feet deep EP.
Inspiration? Sooo many DJ’s have been a inspiration for my sound and style. If I had to list any fav’s, at the top of the list would be Dubfire, Green Velvet, Mateo!, Christian Cracken, Gaga, Atroxx, D-Unity, Quim and the legendary Mark Oliver.
Electronic music has evolved drastically over the years, and with it pioneers that have created new and exciting changes to many genres, especially Techno. Artist’s that create interesting and new styles of production pave the way to exciting music.
What’s next in your schedule after the FGA release hits stores?
FGA has been a huge supporter of my music and I’m super excited to have my next six tracks released in this label.
Chain Reactor, Why This, 20 Hats, Lost in space, and Alessandro-Turn off the Brain (Tyler Hill remix) and finally Reality Check.
Dj Jace is currently working on a remix of my track Chain Reactor that I’m super excited and honored to have remixed forthcoming on Findgrindaudio recordings.
